On Tuesday, March 28, Marist-Sion hosted our inaugural Grandparents’ Day for Year 7 students which was a great success. Approximately 60 grandparents and significant people for our Year 7s came to the College, and were welcomed by the students. After a short presentation, the Year 9 Band, led by Jill Lawrence, played three tunes. The young hosts then took their grandparents on a tour and for a visit to their class, after which our guests received a gift and shared morning tea. We are very grateful to all the grandparents who made the effort to visit, with some travelling a considerable distance to join us. Some of the grandparents themselves attended Our Lady of Sion or Marist College as students, and their grandchildren are third generation scholars within our community. It is unusual for a secondary school to host grandparents. John Picinali and Brooke Thomas deserve credit for organising this lovely event. Part of the presentation was a two minute clip which outlines the benefits of grandparents.
