On Friday 15 June, 14 students and staff braved the cold temperatures to sleep outside for Lourdes House Winter Sleepout. A program designed to encourage conversation and action, also provided a great opportunity for students to develop empathy for those experiencing hardship. During the evening students welcomed Br Doug and presented him donations gathered prior to the evening. The students participated in structured discussions about homelessness around the campfire before tucking in for the evening. We are proud of our young people for the way that they embraced this experiential event where they were given nothing more than a piece of cardboard, a cup of soup and bread for dinner. They braved the cold for one night and learnt about some of the harsh realities faced by those experiencing homelessness and disadvantage. #wintersleepout #compassion
